Digital: December 10th 2018 – RRB010 – Ramrock Blue Records.
For those of you who’ve been following Ramrock Records from the beginning will remember a certain track called ‘Over and Over’ and the singer was a certain green eyed soul boy from Essex called Mr Greg Blackman. It was his voice, with Mr Bird’s production, that launched Ramrock’s soul label, Ramrock Blue - the matrix number was RRB001. Tom Moulton, the Godfather of Disco Remixes + inventor of the Disco 12” remixed the track and the rest is history. Now, it is with great pride that we welcome back Greg with long-time collaborator and friend, Orlando Perez to celebrate Ramrock Blue’s TENTH release and their debut ‘If you can not try’. When Ronnie Herel gave the original version an exclusive spin on his Mi-Soul radio show at Margate Soul Festival 2018….trust me, it caused a DJ stampede to the decks to check out the title’s credentials – everybody wanted a piece of it!! And now the promos are yours – something to float everyone’s boat – check them all – they’re all oozing with GB goodness….and if you play it on your show, tag @ramrockrockrecords, @MrGregBlackman @jinxedmusic for a RT + repost.
And now, a few words from the man himself, Mr Greg Blackman:
Every songwriter has one friend that hears their new work and their work in progress first. One perfect sounding board that can always be relied upon for enthusiasm, honesty and good advice. For me, that friend has long been Orlando Perez. Not only is Orlando the DJ for my live sets but, as an artist and musician in his own right, Orlando has the pedigree in house, Latin, jazz, funk, soul and broken beat to know exactly where I’m coming from and exactly where I’m trying to go. Quite simply: Ollie is an indispensable part of the ‘Greg Blackman Music Machine’.
This very special song about a very personal story is part of a long ongoing collaboration between us and the first we have decided to release commercially. It is a commitment to be wiser, be stronger and to keep on trying. Ask your Momma for the reasons why.
More about Orlando Perez:
Already an established DJ/producer since the early noughties, Orlando cites his main musical influencers as Todd Terry, John Coltrane, Airto Moirera, Lonnie Liston Smith, WAR, Mark Murphy and not only appreciates new jazz & House but all creative forms of music. He’s had releases on Soul Shift, Sup Peeps Records , Bandcamp and Soundcloud as well as producing a folk album for Jason James. Orlando came up with the idea for the composition whilst in Spain – he says ‘I recorded a lot of the background sounds while I was walking around the countryside and my little girl helped me create the Rhodes sounds using Soundbox – she’s one to watch (very proud dad!)’.
