Back in the summer of 2023, a brass packed instrumental, bursting with funk, arrived from Marv of King Brasstards to Jo at Ramrock Records. Jo listened and listened a bit more and said, ‘What you need is an enormous vocal talent delivering colossal vocals on this’. Marv said, ‘Where do we find that?’ and Jo said, ‘There’s only one voice for the job….the mighty Mr Greg Blackman’. The introduction between the two parties was made and in late January 2024, Marv delivered the finished track…..ladies and gentlemen, be prepared to be funked all over by this HUGE collaboration between one of the finest horn troupes around and original lyrics written and performed by the powerhouse that is Greg Blackman. I said ‘Gawd damn, wait a minute’…….

Inspired by the sounds of the streets of New Orleans, seven piece brass ensemble, King Brasstards boast an impressive instrument line up including a magnificent sousaphone, trumpets, trombone, percussion and much more. Their first outing was the 2016 ‘Brasstersized Mixtape 1’ and since then, the band have been wowing audiences at festivals the length and breadth of the UK. Their first release on Ramrock, in 2021, was ‘Up All Night’ ft. Lisa Millett and funk legend, Gary Davis. ‘Wait Till The Morning’ follows up in fine style in 2024.

Greg Blackman is known for his unforgettable voice, his powerful songwriting and his passionate approach to the subjects of his music including mental health and masculinity. No stranger to followers of Ramrock Records, Greg has recently collaborated with Lack of Afro on the hugely successful ‘Loving Arms’ (Bastion Music) which was A Listed on the highly coveted BBC Radio 6 playlist. Greg is also independently releasing one original composition per month for a year on digital platform and Bandcamp – the most recent being, ‘If I did c*caine’.
