Ramrock Red Records are delighted to unleash D.Foe’s genre fluid ‘Fool’ EP and Mark Daniels from D.Foe is here to explain the story behind the project:

“I woke up one morning with this song fully fledged in my head. I knew I’d never heard it before so I thought I must be a frigging songwriting genius to knock out a classic tune like this in my sleep! But after a cup of coffee and careful consideration, I realised that while I’ve occasionally woken up with a bass line or a snatch of a lyric in my head, it was extremely unlikely I’d composed this song in my dreams. After a second coffee, I deduced that I must have heard it on the radio while sleeping, as I sleep with Radio 4 on all night. I went through the Radio 4 schedule and there it was….part of a weird documentary about 20th Century American Music at 3am! I thought if it was catchy enough to hear it in my sleep and remember it 7 hours later, we had to record it. Thankfully Rob agreed. But we needed to make it our own and, as we both like a genre mash up, we added elements of Country & Western stirred in with Ska and a generous helping of Mad Professor influenced dub excursions and stuff that hadn’t been mashed up before”.

The results are ‘Fool’ with the combined talents of Mark Daniels, Rob Clydesdale and vocalists, Hannah Morris, Claire Delliere and Jennifer Ewan. When it comes to singing, Hannah Morris started during lockdown! She lives behind a guitar shop and the owners overheard her singing an Amy Winehouse track one day, loved it, and it went from there! Hannah says, ‘Mark Daniels is a friend who liked my voice and asked me to sing on ‘Fool’ - I’m a mid-century furniture dealer by trade! Claire Delliere is no musical ingénue – she remains an enticing enigma, sprinkling her insanely Continental vocals over D.Foe’s mashup wizardry and finally, the voice of the Scottish Bayous, Jennifer Ewan who fronts her own wonderful Celtic Cajun band, the Jennifer Ewan Band.
