If you can imagine a mix of The Kinks, Bob Dylan, and 2-Tone Ska, you’d be somewhere near DB Cohen’s formative sound. Originally released independently in 2013, ‘Scratchcards and Wine’ is an incredible collection of brass laden, multi-genre songs that reflect Cohen’s early years living in Japan and travelling solo around the globe. It’s easy to hear why Jo Wallace of Ramrock Records was keen to re-launch the songwriter’s debut LP.

Rewinding to 2013, Dan Cohen handed in his demo of ‘Scratchcards and Wine’ to international percussionist, DJ and producer Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove at his legendary 'Good Foot’ night hosted in London’s iconic dance venue, Madame JoJo’s. Within six months, Snowboy had started production on Cohen’s demos and recruited some of London music scene’s most illustrious musical talent to participate. Featured on the album are: Mark Saunders & Rusty Bradshaw (Florence and the Machine), Mike Webster (Asylums, BAIT, Baddies), Ladonna Harley-Peters (Adele, Faithless, Gorillaz), Gary Crockett (JTQ), Andy Gray, Toby Gore, Paul Taylor (Dexy’s Midnight Runners), Tim Smart (The Specials), Rockabilly legend Steve Hooker, and Blues harmonica player Steve 'West' Weston (Roger Daltrey).

Cohen’s debut release followed a wildly successful spin on London’s live scene, selling out London’s 100 Club and the Troubadour, where Dan quickly built a dedicated following on the Mod and Roots music scene. He supported The Blockheads and Terry Reid and played several U.K festivals including an unforgettable performance on the Old Town stage at Boomtown Festival with Ramrock Records label mate MC Mark Professor. Two tracks from the album, 'Stars' and 'Uncommon Love', have featured on the French version of 'The Voice', and the gritty, hard-hitting song 'Shit Jobs' was featured on the TV documentary 'For the Love of Mod'. In 2024, DB Cohen will be releasing his second album, ‘On Target’, featuring a host of brand new and highly anticipated tracks. Watch this space. Follow DB Cohen on Instagram
